In this section we will explore in depth the energetic aspects of the Ashtanga Yoga practice. In its moving form the practice can become a meditation to trigger our deepest powers.

The breath and the work with the bandhas are strong tools to develop a light and powerful practice. In this workshop we will explore these techniques, by going into practice with the help of a release technique and exercises to explore the work with the bandhas. The focus will be to increase and refine your core strength and you will learn how to use weight and gravity. In this way you will learn how to progress your inner strength and how you can release all unnecessary tension in the body (and mind). At the end, there will be time for discussion and Q & A.

Sunday

7:15 – 8:00 Meditation with an Introduction to Pranayama (optional)

Andrea will give an introduction in non-retention Pranayama and in Meditation practice.  Pranayama helps to control the mind. Meditation is an active state to observe how our mind works. We will do short sessions in both techniques to prepare for the Ashtanga Yoga practice.

About Andrea Lutz

Andrea is the director and founder of Ashtanga Studio Berlin. She has studied different traditions of Yoga since 1986. First in the tradition of Shivananda and Iyengar until she found Ashtanga Yoga in 1997. Since then her practice and teaching focused completely on traditional Ashtanga Yoga.  She has been a yoga teacher since 1995 and in May 2005 she founded her own school, the Ashtanga Studio Berlin.

In 2009 Andrea was certified by Manju P. Jois to teach the Primary & the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga. She has his blessing to teach the Advanced A Series and to offer “Teacher Trainings” and Intensives for advanced students and Yoga teachers.

Her own Ashtanga practice is mainly influenced by the “old style“ of Sri K. Patthabi Jois teachings, carried by her main teachers Nancy Gilgoff and Manju P. Jois. With both she is closely connected since 2004. Since 2006 she travels every year to Maui for a long study trip to refine her own practice. She finished the ‘Advanced A’ series  under Nancy´s guidance and completed the syllabus of Pranayama as taught by Sri P. Jois.

In the last years she undertook 3 extended trips to Mysore / India, where she practiced intensely with Vijay and Vinay Kumar from Mysore.

Besides her studies in different Yoga traditions, Andrea has a profound background in performance art and dance. She holds a degree in Physiotherapy and alternative healing (“Heilpraktiker“) and is a Reiki practioner (II Degree).

Her love and deep interest focus on the transformational aspects of the practice and the possibility to develop a higher level of awareness.

She regularly travels to teach workshops and retreats and provides her own yearly teacher training in Berlin since 2008.
